Here’s why Galvalume Plus™ stands out: it combines the best of aluminum-coated and zinc-coated steels. You get unbeatable corrosion and heat resistance, similar to aluminized materials, plus the galvanic protection and forming qualities of galvanized steel. In other words, Galvalume Plus™ is built to resist rust, weather, and fire, all while keeping your building sturdy and secure.

With Galvalume Plus™, you enjoy:

  • At least double the corrosion resistance compared to traditional galvanized coatings of similar thickness under equivalent exposure conditions.
  • Superior protection at cut edges
  • Outstanding heat reflectivity—helping lower energy demand and enhancing interior comfort
  • A distinctive appearance, with a smooth, fine spangle and silvery metallic finish
  • High performance in extreme temperatures

And guess what? All these benefits come at no extra cost per square foot!

Today, Galvalume Plus™ is the top choice for car mufflers, standing seam roofing, fence tubing, greenhouses, steel buildings, and much more. Its versatility and reliability make it a favourite for the Canadian climate.

We source our Galvalume Plus™ steel from ArcelorMittal Dofasco—one of the industry’s most trusted steel mills. This ensures we can offer you a cost-effective product, and we pass those savings directly on to you.

CORROSION RESISTANCE

Galvalume pluss corrosian resistance

Worried about rust, harsh weather, or how long your steel will last? With Galvalume Plus™, you get the ultimate peace of mind, thanks to the powerful combination of aluminum and zinc. It’s engineered to stand up to the toughest conditions, offering at least double the lifespan of standard galvanized steel—even when the coating thickness is exactly the same. Whether you’re dealing with Canada’s wet coasts, frigid prairies, or humid summers, Galvalume Plus™ keeps your building protected longer.

Don’t just take our word for it—Bethlehem Steel spent over 13 years testing Galvalume Plus™ out in the real world, and the results are impressive. Compared to regular galvanized steel, here’s how Galvalume Plus™ performed:

  • Lasted four times longer in brutal marine environments—think salty sea air and relentless rain!
  • Lasted twice as long in milder coastal settings, so you’re covered even where nature’s a bit gentler.
  • Survived six times longer in tough industrial areas—ideal for factories, warehouses, and manufacturing plants.
  • Lasted three times longer out in the countryside, where you might not expect corrosion to be a threat.

HIGH TEMPERATURE PERFORMANCE

Galvalume Plus™ steel resists intermediate and high temperatures far more effectively than galvanized steel.

Galvalume Plus™ steel does not change color when exposed to temperatures up to 315°C (600°F). This is true for both continuous and intermittent exposure over a long time.

Above this temperature, some discoloration does occur and roughening of the surface is possible. Neither this discoloration nor roughening, however, reduces Galvalume Plus's resistance to rust. Galvalume Plus™ maintains its rust-resistance up to 675°C (1250°F.)

Additionally, Galvalume Plus™ has excellent heat reflectivity, up to operating temperatures of about 315°C (600°F.) This heat reflectivity makes a building cooler inside on hot, sunny days.

HIGH TEMPERATURE PERFORMANCE

If you’re looking for steel that can take the heat—literally—Galvalume Plus™ delivers. Unlike traditional galvanized steel, Galvalume Plus™ is built to handle everything from moderate warmth to blazing temperatures without breaking a sweat. It’s the smart choice for projects where high temp performance matters.

Galvalume Plus™ stands up to continuous or occasional heat exposure up to 315°C (600°F) and never changes colour, so it keeps its sleek appearance year after year.

Push it above those temps and you might see some surface roughening or a bit of discolouration—but interestingly neither has any impact on rust resistance. Galvalume Plus™ keeps fighting corrosion up to a scorching 675°C (1250°F), so you never have to worry about durability.

There’s more! Galvalume Plus™ has outstanding heat reflectivity up to 315°C (600°F), helping keep your building cooler on those hot, sunny summer days. That means less heat transfer indoors, more comfort for everyone, and potential savings on energy costs.

PAINTING GALVALUME PLUS™

painted s-series buildings

The atttractive silvery-matte finish of Galvalume Plus™ means painting is definitely not required. Still, some customers choose to paint their buildings to match property aesthetics and personal preferences.

Galvalume Plus™ steel is engineered to accept most paints compatible with galvanized steel, making custom finishes a breeze. Start by ensuring the surface is spotless and dry—no oil, grease, dirt, or dust should interfere. With no weathering period required, you can begin painting right away and transform your building to suit your style.

For flawless results and lasting beauty, consult a knowledgeable paint supplier. Their expertise in selecting the right painting system—and ensuring primer and topcoat compatibility—will help you achieve a durable, vibrant finish that stands the test of time.

Painting Galvalume Plus™ buildings is straightforward, provided you follow proper surface preparation protocols. Because Galvalume Plus™ is often chemically treated (passivated), thorough cleaning and priming are key for optimal paint adhesion and corrosion resistance. No weathering is needed, but meticulous prep ensures a professional result.

To achieve the best results, follow these surface preparation steps:

  • Clean the steel thoroughly to remove contaminants. Use a mild soap detergent and test on a small area to ensure the finish remains unaffected.
  • Rinse and dry the surface completely.
  • Apply a primer and verify its adhesion.
  • Conduct a final adhesion test after painting or curing. Exterior acrylic house paints have proven successful.

Always follow the paint manufacturer’s instructions for surface preparation and application to maximize paint adhesion and maintain corrosion resistance.

Important: Painting your Pioneer Steel building will void its 50-year warranty. Consider this before making any changes to your building’s exterior.
